Close

The tombs of the Romanov dynasty are located by the pillars in the central part of the cathedral. Here, the founder of the dynasty Tsar Mikhail Fydorovich, Tsars Alexey Mikhailovich, Fyodor Alexeevich and Ivan Alexeevich – father and half-brothers of Peter I are at rest from toil.

Russian emperors from Peter I on down were buried in the Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg, the new capital of the state. Only Emperor Peter II, grandson of Peter I, who died in 1730 in Moscow, was buried in the Archangel Cathedral.
