PROPHETS TIER

In the Prophets tier the Old Testament prophets are shown with unfolded rolls in their hands containing excerpts from their prophecy on God's incarnation — the appearance of the Saviour to the people.

The Mother of God Enthroned with the infant Christ on her lap is represented in the centre of the prophets tier.

The composition of the Prophets tier of the Archangel Cathedral iconostasis is traditional. Here are the Old Testament Tsars David and Solomon; the leader and the law-maker of the Jewish people Moses; high priest Aaron; prophet Zechariah, father of John the Baptist; one of the greatest prophets Elijah, honored to be taken alive to the heaven; his disciple Elisha; the Major Prophet-writers Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, as well as the Lesser Prophets Jonah and Habakkuk, Jeremiah’s contemporary. The distinctive feature of the prophets’ tier is the icon of Apostle James the Great.
